Vintage Kantha Throw - #2
Vintage Kantha Throw - Handmade in New Delhi, India circa 1960.
Dimensions:
Roughly 72” x 41”
Please keep in mind – This collection of blankets is smaller and a lighter weight than some other quilts we have sold in the past. These sizes are perfect for a throw blanket or daybed cover.
Some pieces are very worn, and some contain wear and tear... we have photographed any defects in the listings. Please keep in mind that every Kantha quilt that exists is one of a kind, and carries its own story. To love a vintage Kantha quilt is to love its past, and its imperfections.
Kantha is one of the oldest and most traditional forms of embroidery originating in India, and is still ritually practiced today by millions of South Asian women. The word “Kantha” defined means ‘making whole again that which was once fragmented or broken.’
Kantha quilts are known for almost always using the traditional ‘running stitch’, layering soft fabrics together to form a quilt. Today some people have vintage Kantha quilts repurposed into garments, bags, or other home décor items, while many people love and appreciate the vintage beauty of these blankets in their original form. These blankets are dense, providing more warmth than a typical throw blanket.
